BOY (or Baby of the Year)

Baby Rio hasn't even been in this great big world for even 1 week yet, and I think he could win handsomest baby of the year. Of course, being his auntie, I do have a slight bias towards him. But look at him: sweet pink lips, perfect nose, tons of dark already well-coiffed hair and a cute little chin. And when he opens his eyes they're deep and beautiful. Yep! He's a keeper!

Manager Miles

After dinner tonight, while mommy and daddy cleaned, Miles grabbed a little notebook and a pen and proceeded to march (yes he very much walked like he had great purpose) around the house scribbling while saying, "Ok, ok. Yeah. Ok." Every once in awhile he'd stop at a particular spot, like right behind daddy washing dishes at the sink, scribble some more and declare, "Ok. Ok." But when I checked out what he was writing it was just scribbles. He had such attitude and confidence I was sure he was giving daddy his latest job review, but no, just marks on paper.

But wait, maybe this is all good. Following people around, standing behind them while watching them work, scribbling nonsense on paper, I think he's ready for a job in upper management. And he's only 2! At this rate he'll own his own paper company by age 5. Go Miles!

Max Keepin' It Real

Here's the scene: it's Sunday afternoon around noon, Max is playing with Play-Doh at the dining room table and Miles is drawing near by. I've just showered and I walk into the dining room, dressed for the day after lounging around in my p.j.s all morning. I bend down to give Max a little kiss and he touches my shirt and says, "I like it when you're dressed."
me: "you mean instead of me wearing my p.j.s?"
Max: "yeah."

I don't ask anymore questions b/c I'm pretty sure, in his own Max way, he was calling me a slacker. And who wants to be called a slacker by their 4 year old?

And just to show you I'm not the only slacker around this house, here's a photo of Max with his pajamas on AND he has his blankie on his head - total slacker! And I think the time stamp is 10:30 AM. Can you believe it?!

My 3 Greatest Loves

Happy Valentine's Day to my wonderful boys! I love you!

Matt loves eating bacon, particularly when Max is dishin' it out. (this is a vintage photo of a 2 year old Max with his daddy)

Here's my big boy Max with a Play-Doh mustache. He loves Play-Doh; especially when he can create something silly.

My sweet little Miles loves "writing" as he calls it. I think he really thinks he's writing letters; as he scribbles, he verbalizes what letter he's writing. In this photo, it looks like he's saying "eeee."

Miles & Hot Chocolate

We have this very Minnesota winter tradition in our family that after playing outside in the snow and cold we "warm up" inside with some hot chocolate. Here's Miles showing off his skill of drinking his with a spoon.

That super cool mug is from our long lost NC potter friend, John. Thanks John!

What's in a Name?

So I've been thinking of starting a blog for some time, but I've felt a little shy about it because I don't know how "bloggy" I am. Anyway I guess I'll never know until I try!

I hope the name "Deeply Felt Things" comes across more as kitschy than sweet and sentimental. I have nothing against sweet and sentimental, but it's not really me. Ask my husband, he'll tell you. He often has to coax a hug out of me because I feel like I've got too much to do and I don't have time for a hug. Ridiculous, I know, but I blame it on my parents getting divorced at a critical time in my emotional development. (Ok, not really.)

Alright, back to the name, so I wanted a straight forward name kinda like Max the Baby, which is about Max (and his brother Miles); or a simple, yet engaging name like Fox and Owl, where my friend Erika shares her creative prowess and blogs about her adorable boys; or even a play-on-words name like Hamann Eggs, where a funny dad blogs about his very cute kids. Anyway so what my name choice came down to was I recently opened an Etsy shop and I thought it might be a good idea to also blog a little about my things, which are mostly felt, and that's where the name came from. And I'll probably also add some posts about my boys every now and then.
